Chef, Food Network star, wife, mother – and now an actress. Ree Drummond owns the resume completely – and has no plans to stop expanding it anytime soon.
The “Pioneer Woman” presenter, 52, is starring in the Cooking Network and the first feature film written for Discovery+, Candy Coated Christmas.
Drummond will make her acting debut in the flick, scheduled for release on November 19.
according to people, the film centers on Molly Gallant (played by Molly McCook), who returns to her home in Washington after her mother’s death. She arrives after learning that her family’s company is facing bankruptcy. The post first showed a candy-wrapped trailer for the show on Wednesday.
Molly wants to sell her childhood home to her mother before she meets the current tenants, Noah Winters (Aaron O’Connell) and his family. Molly begins to fall in love (of course!) with the quaint little town of Peppermint Hollow, along with her bakery (operated by Drummond’s character, Bee) and Noah.
“I am incredibly honored that Food Network has asked me to play Bee,” Drummond said in a statement. “If I’ve only been in one movie in my life, I want it to be a Christmas movie.”
Fans can watch the chef as well as the rest of the cast and enjoy the character in an insider scoop feature called “Candy Coated Christmas: Behind the Scenes with Ree Drummond.” This special offer will drop on November 1 on Discovery+.
The news of the choice of the Oklahoma native was announced in August. “It’s been a dream to do this for a long time,” Kathleen Finch, chief lifestyle brand officer for Discovery, told Variety at the time. “Not only do we have the Discovery+ platform to show the movie, but what’s exciting is that we have giant cable networks and digital platforms that we can really use to promote the movie in a super-sized way.”
“Rey is the epitome of talented Women’s Food Network,” Finch added. “We put it and all these fun ideas in a bowl and came up with this fun idea.”
In a statement, Drummond added, “A candy-coated Christmas was so much fun to be involved in; it had all the magical elements that make holiday movies so special. Any initial nerves I had about joining this project completely faded when I stepped into the sweet world of Peppermint Hollow.” And the magician!”
