Bethenny Frankel may have come a long way since her debut on ‘The Real Housewives of New York’ – but Jill Zarin still remembers her start as ‘Nobody’
In a new book about the show, Zarine tells how the now-rich Skinnygirl mogul was nothing but an unlucky egotist considered by some of the other cast members to lie beneath him during the first season of Housewives of New York.
“Kelly Bensimon was a model and Bethenny Frankel couldn’t sell a cupcake at the grocery store,” Zarin told author Dave Quinn in a wonderful book, Not All Diamonds and Rosie: The Inside Story of the Real Housewives of the People Who Lived ItVia Twitter.)
“Honestly, she was a nobody.”
Comments by Zarine – who has always feuded with Frankel – refer to Iconic argument Bensimon and Frankel performed during the first season of “RHONY” in 2008.
“Listen, I just want to make something very clear with you so that we are on the same page. We are not friends,” Bensimon told Frankel at the time, adding, “We are not alike: that is you.” [gestures with her hand below] and that’s me [raises her hand up higher]. We don’t talk.”
She also said, “While you are busy talking, I am busy doing things. So you have to like it and be aware of the situation.”
Frankl replied at the time, sarcastically, “You’re here because you’re a model, because you put your name on any invitation” because you’re gathering celebrities as friends. Because you are more than wonderful.”
Zarine Bensimon’s friend also influenced the epic hit with Frankel, telling Quinn, “I mean, people come to me all the time and do that. NeNe Leakes, when I first met her she was like, ‘Girl! I’m here, you’re there! “You are amazing. I love you!”
Zarine stated in May that she wouldn’t be friends with Frankel – who now has a net worth of around $70 million thanks to her Skinnygirl line of drinks and products.
