Police say the shooting of a teenager near an elementary school in New York City

Police said bullets flew near an elementary school on the Upper West Side on Thursday afternoon, wounding a teen with a bullet wound to the leg.

Police said the shooting took place around 1:45 p.m. on West 71st Street and Amsterdam Avenue. West Side Day School, a private school serving K-8 students, is located less than half a block away.

Police said the teen, whose age was not immediately available, was taken to St Luke’s Hospital in a stable condition.
