What does this mean for the future

It looks like Sony is seriously committed to publishing its console games on PC.

In the past, if you wanted to play one of Sony’s first party games, you needed one of their consoles. Today, the landscape is changing, with some Sony PlayStation exclusives already available on PC – and more are on the way.

Now, Sony is publishing its games under a new name: PlayStation PC LLC. It could be a sign that the company is investing more in PC games.

What is PlayStation PC LLC?

Sony is slowly releasing first-party PlayStation games on PC. For example, Death Stranding was released for PC in July 2020, with Horizon Zero Dawn arriving in August 2020.

In July 2021, Sony acquired Nixxes Software to help port its games to PC, with the studio having a reputation for bringing high-profile games to the platform.

Future PC releases from Sony include Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection and God of War in 2022.

Now, in another sign that Sony is strengthening its commitment to the PC, Steam games appear as published by PlayStation PC LLC, a company registered with Sony in April 2021. Previously, the publisher was listed as PlayStation Mobile.

What does this mean for the future of PlayStation?

For now, if you want to try out Sony’s first-party games when they debut, the PS5 is the best way to do it. PC ports didn’t arrive until months or years later. Of course, this gap may shorten in the future.

While some games, such as Ghosts of Tsushima, haven’t been released for PC yet, recent leaks suggest that this could be announced soon alongside Sackboy: A Big Adventure.

Sony will have done its research. Traditionally, people either play on a computer or console, not both. There is clearly a market for Sony to release its game on PC without taking away from its console sales. The commitment to the PlayStation PC brand shows that Sony takes this very seriously. We’ll likely see more of a Sony presence on PC from now on.

In fact, this is something Microsoft has been doing for a while, especially with the Xbox Games Pass. All first-party games launch simultaneously on PC and Xbox. Sony may look forward to the success of this initiative and hope to follow suit.
