How can Barcelona line up under Xavi with Sterling and Conde and return to Guardiola’s squad

Barcelona legend Xavi is known to occupy an exciting seat at his old club.

Former coach Ronald Koeman received a chance to win after a string of sad results that put Barcelona in ninth place in the League.

Now Xavi is said to be lining up with Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling and Seville’s Jules Conde as his first signings.

The 41-year-old has won all the titles in his 17 years as a club player.

He believes he would prefer to return to the 4-3-3 method that had so much success during the tiki-taka era under Pep Guardiola.

It could be argued that Koeman has been fighting with one hand tied behind his back this season.

He lost his talisman to Lionel Messi against Paris Saint-Germain after the financial turmoil at the Nou Camp resulted in them not being able to hold on to him.

New player Sergio Aguero was insulted even before he kicked the ball.

The results have been awful under the Dutchman, but one thing he can take credit for is bringing a host of young talents to Barcelona.

The question Xavi asks is what combination of youth and experience he wants in his new age.

There is little doubt that Marc-Andre ter Stegen maintains his position among the sticks.

The Four Defenders is a prime place for young and old to mingle, with Jordi Alba and Sergi Roberto flanked by veterans Eric Garcia and potential new man Conde.

Before them is another mixture of the present and the future.

Club captain Sergio Busquets sits as an anchor between the fearsomely talented Jaffe and the developing Frenkie de Jong.

Then comes the scratcher – who’s leading the line in this new XI shape?

Xavi reportedly believes he can revive the career of Ousmane Dembele – the young Frenchman who joined for big money but suffered a horrific injury.

And if Sterling gets in, there is a good chance he will start at the top of the league with his former City teammate Aguero.

There are plenty of terms and conditions though – 33-year-old Aguero joined Barcelona to play with Messi and is said to be looking forward to a reunion at PSG.

Big names Memphis Depay and Philippe Coutinho were also relegated to the bench.

Xavi is one of the most famous alumni of the La Masia Academy.

The Catalan youth team has also produced the likes of big stars Messi, Andres Iniesta and Carles Puyol.

So what’s stopping Xavi from putting his faith in the current crop of superstars coming through the ranks?

Barcelona may be weak but they are currently blessed with some of the best youngsters on earth.

A little mix and match has to happen to squeeze them all. The prodigy Pedri may have to play more forward than usual.

There’s only room for one old hand – Xavi can put his former teammate Gerard Pique in the back as a big figure while the kids run around in a mess.
