One of the most useful features of Android is the ability to stream live audio. Using voice recognition, Google has created a precise and accurate tool that allows any video or audio you are listening to be annotated automatically. This could be a podcast, video or audio recording.

For Android 11 and Android 12 users, this feature is just a touch simple and very easy to use. Here’s how to set it up.

How to use Live Caption

The caption was initially created for those who are deaf or hard of hearing. However, recently, the feature has seen a lot of popularity among the everyday consumer. It is very useful for those who are in an area where they do not want to play audio. On the bus, in the workspace, captioning has become a very pervasive tool.

To turn on the live caption feature, simply press the volume button and the Live Caption icon will appear below the volume settings icon. When the feature is turned on, captions will appear for whatever media is being played, as long as the audio can be heard. For Pixel users, captions also appear during voice calls.

This feature does not require any internet connection and all captions are processed locally, which means they are not stored anywhere other than your device.

Captions are currently only available in English and on devices running Android 11 or 12. For Samsung devices, please refer to our guide for direct captioning on Samsung devices.

If you don’t see the Live Caption option on your device, you may need to update your Android system intelligence (formerly known as Device Customization Services). This will happen through the Play Store.

Customize your Live Captions

You can move captions by dragging the caption box. Double clicking on the box expands the captions and to remove them, simply drag the box towards the bottom of the screen. By accessing direct explanation Settings under sound Settings menu, you can monitor profanity and show audio labels such as laughter or crying.

If you want to customize the appearance of your captions, you will have to access a file Accessibility Settings. This can be accessed through your Settings List. Choose Caption Preferences > Caption Size and Style To change the color and font size of your captions.

A more favorable future

Captions have become more useful than anyone expected. Thanks to our current technology, smartphones are able to produce accurate and high quality captions that you are sure to start using.
