Microsoft PowerToys finally gets a video conference mute tool

Microsoft

Microsoft has released a new update for PowerToys, and it brings the video conference mute feature we’ve been waiting for. It also adds a mouse utility and an updated PowerRename user interface much like the rest of Windows 11.

Windows power users love Microsoft PowerToys because it adds a lot of great functionality to their operating system. When there’s a new update, it’s fun to see exactly what Microsoft will be adding and how it will change the way we use our computers.

In the latest update, Microsoft made some significant changes, the most notable of which was the muting of the video conference sound. With so many of us relying on virtual meetings to do our jobs nowadays, having a convenient tool to hide your webcam and mute your microphone comes in handy.

Microsoft Describe The feature that provides the ability to “quickly mute the microphone (audio) and turn off the camera (video) with the press of a button during a conference call, regardless of which application is focused on your computer.”

While the feature was added to the stable release of PowerTools in version 0.49.0, it’s not quite ready for prime time. Microsoft says, “As Video Conference Mute is now available in stable releases, there are still known bugs that we’re actively working on. These bugs are being tracked on GitHub, and we welcome any and all feedback as we work to isolate and resolve the cause.”

The new Mouse Utility allows you to quickly find the position of your mouse by double pressing the left Control key. Microsoft says this is “ideal for large, high-resolution displays and visually impaired users.”

There are a lot of other cool things in the latest version of PowerToys, and you can check out Changelog on github For full details.
