The Smart Desk Mat is MOFT’s fifth Kickstarter, and it was fully funded in record time. As one of their previous supporters, I was able to get to the campaign before it was launched to the public and saw that it achieved its goal in a matter of hours. It is now more than 2000% funded. And as this review will make clear, it’s an end product, based on the same principles that made MOFT’s previous crowdfunding campaigns so successful.

When it comes to MOFT, I may be a bit biased, but only because I’ve been using their products for a few years now. After testing and using three different MOFT products so far, I can vouch for their quality and reliability.

My first impression of the MOFT smart desk mat

At 55.6 ounces (1,577 g), the desk mat itself is rather stiff. It’s made of vegan leather, fiberglass, and metal plates, which provide the backbone for the magnet to hold it in place. In general, the desk mat looks durable and looks like a high-quality product.

Likewise, accessories make an excellent impression. Although it may take a moment to discover all the possible folds and applications, each accessory makes perfect sense and is easy to use. The built-in magnets are strong and can hold even heavy items in place.

How to use Smart Desk Mat

You can choose from different angles and settings, ranging from a 25-degree angle for typing on a laptop or drawing on a tablet, to anywhere from 45-degree to 60-degree or standing almost upright to hold a book or document. Switching between different configurations is easy.

The tablet stand is one of the smartest accessories due to the way it folds. Ships entirely flat, and clips onto desk mat. To turn it into a stand, fold it in the middle. The middle and bottom portions will remain flat, but a flap will appear on each side to support your tablet, e-reader, book, or whatever else fits you.

MagSafe Wireless Charging Pad and Phone Holder

The wireless charging pad is magnetic and uses USB-C, but you need to provide your own charging cable. If your phone does not have magnetism, you can use the included sticker to attach it to the magnet. Note that the desk mat itself is not magnetic, so you’ll need to mount the phone to one of the included magnets, such as a charging pad or watch stand.

Noticeable: Please do not use wireless charging. Start. Not only does wireless charging waste a lot of power, the wasted heat can also damage your device’s battery. Wireless charging may be convenient, but it will make the batteries life faster and fail sooner.

In my eyes, there is nothing special about the watch holder. It can carry any watch, smart or not.

The book holders are convenient when you want to grab a coffee and a snack while reading. The design is clever, with a non-slip material on the inside to prevent the paper from slipping.

However, book owners only aim to prevent pages from flying off; They are not strong enough to hold a book. You will either have to put the book on the tablet stand or leave it on the desk or under the smart desk mat.

Wrist / Leg Cushion

The magnetically attachable cushion has a non-slip backing. Use it to either protect your wrists while typing, or clip it to the back of the mat before putting the mat over your legs. Thick foam provides a comfortable buffer.

Built-in NFC tags is a great feature that can magically put your phone into “office mode”. What is “office mode”, you ask? Well, it’s anything you want. Should You Get the MOFT Smart Desk Mat?

The main downsides of the MOFT Smart Desk Mat include its size and price. Desk mat measures 19.8 inches (50.4 cm) wide and 11.8 inches (30 cm) deep. It’s a great size to hold a large tablet and some accessories, but it might be too big for your desk.

Currently, you can still get MOFT Smart Desk Mat at Kickstarter prices. But even a basic set will set you back $79 (retail price $99) or you can spend up to $147 ($187 retail) for the full set. That’s a hefty price tag for a simple desk organizer. This does not include shipping, which is $15 within the US or up to $45 internationally.
