Microsoft kept the old MS Paint with the introduction of Paint 3D. However, even today, a few old school students still use MS Paint as a painting tool for their small business.
Given how MS Paint is progressing now, it is not uncommon to encounter the occasional MS Paint error. If your paint tool freezes, malfunctions and generally does not work as it should, you need to check it thoroughly.
As such, we have listed six fixes that can make MS Paint work again.
1. Run MS Paint as administrator
Running MS Paint as administrator is the first step to resolve any MS Paint related problems. Some system files prevent Windows programs from working properly. As such, running the file as administrator enables it to access files that would normally be restricted.
Private access can be dangerous at times, especially when granted to third-party tools. However, since MS Paint is an integrated tool, giving it administrator access shouldn’t pose any threat.
Go to the Windows search box and type “fee” But don’t hit Enter yet. To run MS Paint as administrator, right-click on a file Paint app and choose Run as administrator.
Now check if your Paint app is back to normal. If not, then carry out the remaining repairs.
2. Clear the cache of Microsoft Store
You may have never cleared the Microsoft Store cache before, Windows users. Either you don’t know how to do it, or the process is more complicated than other apps and browsers. Heaps of cached data on your system is likely to cause problems. So, let’s clear its cache before performing any other fix.
To clear the Microsoft Store cache, open the Run command by pressing Win + R.. then type WSReset.exe and hit Yes. You will see a blank Command Prompt window.
Although you may see that it does nothing for more than fifteen seconds, it will clear the cache in the background. It will automatically close within half a minute, and the Microsoft Store will automatically open, confirming that the Command Prompt processing is complete.
This process may clear the Microsoft Store cache and restore its normal functionality. If not, you may need to clear the cache from the system as well to get Microsoft Store apps back on track.
So, type Command Prompt in the Windows search box and open the Command Prompt application. Type whoami / user and hit Enters. Make a copy of the letters and numbers below SID and save it to your computer.
After that, open the file Register Editor by typing Regedit in the Windows Run command. Here, navigate to the following path:
ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionAppxAppxAllUserStore
Locate a registry key that is similar to the one under SID at the command prompt. Click on the folder named with the same key and delete it. You should make sure that the folder you are deleting is similar to the SID to avoid adding more problems to your container.
3. Delete any new fonts you have installed
There are many pitfalls associated with downloading fonts from unknown sources. Third-party fonts can interfere with some apps directly and indirectly. Therefore, if you have recently installed new fonts in your system, consider deleting them, especially if they are not from trusted sources.
You can access and delete newly installed fonts in Windows here:
-
go to the Windows Settings app.
-
Go to Personalization Settings.
-
On the left sidebar, go to lines.
-
Click the line you want to delete.
-
tap on uninstall.
For all newly installed fonts, repeat the same steps one by one. Make sure the fonts left are from reliable sources. You can confirm this by checking the font designer’s details, copyright, legal trademark details, and their license description.
Windows provides users with troubleshooting options automatically. Whatever problem you have, Windows will have some troubleshooter to find and fix it. Before trying less fun fixes like resetting the operating system, run the Windows App Store troubleshooter once.
To do this, head over to the Windows search bar and type “Find and fix problems with Windows Store apps.” By clicking on the folder with the same name in the search results, a troubleshooting window will open in the App Store.
Once you click the followingThen, the troubleshooter will start detecting problems, and when the process is finished, it will identify and fix any internal issues with the App Store.
Continue with the next fix if the troubleshooter did not solve your Paint problems.
5. Run Microsoft Security Scan
It is possible that malware has infiltrated your computer and interfered with Windows applications and features. Malware of this type can also impair the functionality of Paint. Although there are hundreds of tools to scan your system for viruses, we recommend the Microsoft Safety Scanner.
It can be used to find viruses and hidden threats and undo any damage they’ve caused. The official Microsoft website recommends downloading the latest version of the scan every time you scan your computer.
Download the scanner compatible with your system from the file Microsoft official website. It offers three different types of scans, so choose the one that best suits your needs.
The tool will scan all files and inform you of the number of infected files. You can remove them later to keep your system running smoothly.
Find out more about what the scanner can do for you at Official Microsoft Blog.
6. Update Paint in Microsoft Store
Finally, if nothing else works, you can update the apps in the Microsoft Store to make sure MS Paint is up to date. You can do this by visiting the Microsoft Store and clicking File Three horizontal dots in the upper right corner. Click Download and Updates and hit Get updates. MS Paint will automatically update if a new update is available.
Get MS Paint Back to Life
We hope the fixes in the list will help you bring your paint tool back to life. If nothing works, you can update your operating system or reset it as a last resort. If that doesn’t work, then you have no choice but to switch to any other photo editing or painting app.
Are you an avid user of Windows? If so, try Paint 3D, the new version of MS Paint. It offers more features, is more advanced and is constantly updated. If you haven’t tried it yet, you should.
