Windows comes with a lot of customization options, among them is the modest screen saver. You can set any design, image or text to add some fun to your screen when you take a break. However, sometimes the screensaver stops working, leaving you with a boring blank screen.
If your computer is not showing the screensaver no matter how long you wait, our guide will help you fix that. In addition, we will show you what to do when the screensaver freezes or when you cannot exit the screensaver mode.
1. Turn on the screen saver via Settings
By default, the Windows screen saver is disabled. So if you don’t remember configuring its settings, there is a chance that you will need to launch it from Windows settings for it to start. Follow these steps to enable and customize the screen saver:

2. Disconnect any external devices you no longer need

If you have disconnected all unnecessary devices and the screensaver has not started yet, you should try other solutions from our list.
3. Change the sleep time on your computer
If your computer takes less time to go into sleep mode than it does for the screen saver to turn on, you will never see the screen saver. This is because your computer is already in sleep mode before the screen saver will launch.
To fix it, you need to set the sleep time or the time to wait for the screensaver. Go through the steps above to change the waiting time for the screensaver. If you want to set bedtime, follow these steps:

5. Run the Power Troubleshooter
If you can’t find anything wrong with your screensaver settings, it’s time to move on to Windows troubleshooting tools. Running the power troubleshooter can fix screensaver issues.

click Started and go to Settings > Update & Security.

From the right pane, select Troubleshooter.

click Additional Troubleshooting Tools.

click Power > Run the troubleshooter.
The troubleshooter will fix any detected problem on its own. After that, check if the screen saver is working.
6. Run SFC Scan
If there are damaged or corrupted system files that prevent the screen saver from working properly, the system file checker should fix the problem. Run Command Prompt with administrative rights and use File sfc /scannow command to start the scanning process.
The process can take some time, so make sure that neither you nor anyone else closes the Command Prompt window. If it finds any corrupt or corrupt files, SFC will automatically replace them.
7. Reset power plan settings
Since the screensaver is a power feature, some stray power settings can turn off the screensaver. In this case, returning the power plan settings to default should fix the problem. This is how you do it:

8. Update display drivers
