Critics hope Andrew Cuomo’s Empire Station complex will be scrapped

opponents of the previous government. Cuomo’s extravagant plan to build 10 skyscrapers around Penn Station hopefully the stars will align with it.

Cuomo was charged Thursday with molesting a former aide in the Executive Palace in Albany – a crime that could lead to a year in prison if convicted.

It would likely be another blow to his multi-billion dollar Empire Station complex — Manhattan’s largest land-use proposal, which many people in the downtown area didn’t know about until last spring.

The project is reportedly undergoing an “executive review” by the administration of Governor Cathy Hochhol, who is being heavily pressured by real estate interests, sources said.

“Hochul is trying to distance herself from some of these Cuomo projects,” said an insider who spoke on condition of anonymity. It actually killed his Airtrain plan ($2.1 billion) and that’s a lot bigger.

So far, Empire State Development (ESD), the government agency responsible for the project, has not responded to the proposed amendments in 27 page report Introduced by a community advisory committee in August.

The report will reduce the allowable density of some new buildings, halt many convictions and include more public spaces.

Opponents have long made it clear that they want to renovate and modernize Penn Station – but are skeptical of ESD’s plan to allow Steven Roth’s Vornado Realty to build 10 towers in the area in exchange for funding to upgrade Penn Station.
