Gary Neville has warned Jadon Sancho he could end up like Van de Beek at Manchester United after he was left on the bench in a new squad.

Gary Neville has warned Jadon Sancho that he could end up in the same position as Manchester United’s outcast Donny van de Beek.

The summer’s £73m deal from Borussia Dortmund has yet to gain a foothold in the starting line-up at Old Trafford, as they have to settle for a place on the bench.

England international Sancho has been an unused substitute in United’s last two games against Liverpool and Tottenham, and Neville can’t help but feel he could suffer the same fate as Van de Beek.

He said, “You know something, I can think of Van de Beek.

“Who put the name on it, who’s looking after him at Manchester United, that kid who just sat in the stands and didn’t kick the football.

“Sancho if he’s not careful, he’ll end up just the same.

“He’s played in some pretty horrible performances, and not him, I mean the team’s performance.

“He came to a club that seemed completely disjointed in terms of football, and played in a much better unit at Borussia Dortmund.

“He came in thinking probably, ‘What the hell am I doing here, what is this, there is no organization or structure? “

“He’s the only player if you look at the defensive running stats of nearby Manchester United.

“I think it’s fifth or sixth, he’s actually doing a shift.

“He should be sitting on the bench thinking ‘what am I doing, I’m not going to play in this system’.”

“Because I don’t see him in midfield or two up front, so he thinks about where my career at Manchester United goes and Van de Beek thinks the same.

“Today was a good day but it causes problems in other places.”

Dutch international Van de Beek has made just 39 appearances for United since his £40m move from Ajax last summer.

The midfielder has only been out on the field three times this season.

Manchester United will return to action on Tuesday, as they travel to Italy to face Atalanta in their fourth Champions League Group F match of the season.
