Sergio Aguero was taken to hospital after a heart attack and difficulty breathing during Barcelona’s 1-1 draw with Alaves.
The former Manchester City striker needed medical treatment on the field after he was caught in the chest and complained of breathing problems.
His heart rate was also accelerating and he was taken in an ambulance to the hospital for tests.
Reports in Spain indicate that the Argentine striker is “feeling fine”.
Barcelona interim president Serge Barguan told La Liga TV: “I can’t tell you much more than that. I know he has been taken to hospital and they are undergoing tests.”
Aguero, 33, fell to the ground near the end of the first half at the Nou Camp and paramedics rushed to his aid.
He pointed to his chest while receiving treatment and his colleagues examined it during disturbing scenes.
Paramedics brought a stretcher onto the field, but it was not needed as Aguero quickly got back on his feet and walked off the field to be replaced by Philippe Coutinho.
The Argentine striker suffered from Covid-19 disease after contracting the virus in January of this year and missed seven matches with City.
And in May last year, Aguero said that “the majority of players are afraid” of the prospect of returning to football too soon amid the coronavirus pandemic.
He said: “The majority of the players are afraid because they have children and families,
“I am afraid but I am with my girlfriend here and I will not be in contact with other people. I am locked in my house and the only person who can get infected is my girlfriend.”
The incident comes after Christian Eriksen was fitted with a cardiac starter device following his traumatic cardiac arrest at Euro this summer.
