Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani, aged 70, show Kane how it’s done

HARRY KANE left a familiar feeling of deja vu after being bullied by two super attackers.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani combined may be 70 years old, but they still have enough in the closet to show the struggling England captain how it should be done.

And you have to wonder how long Kane can last after another 90 minutes of utter frustration.

No goals, no shots and hardly any touches in the United penalty area.

He even had to suffer the shame of being booed by his supporters when he had a late shooting opportunity, but he moved on to the nearest defender instead.

Spurs were already on the decline and by then, buried in the predatory skills of United’s veteran players.

And how can Kane be envious of the silver service the visitors were able to provide to Ronaldo, Cavani and substitute Marcus Rashford.

To say Kane has gone out of his way isn’t entirely true considering he’s already scored ten goals for club and country this season.

But half of them have faced the Europa Conference League, and only one was in the Premier League during the recent 3-2 win over Newcastle.

So he must have been enjoying the opportunity to boost his tally against a United defense who have scored 11 goals in just their last three games.

However, he once again found himself fed up on scraps and was largely reclusive up front for extended periods of the match.

United’s change of squad barely helped him, leaving him battling three defenders including England teammate Harry Maguire.

As a result, he fell deeper and deeper in search of the ball. But that meant he was less of a threat to goalkeeper David de Gea.

Pretty much, the only time Ronaldo and Cavani fell in their own half was at the start.

But Kane found himself regularly playing against midfielders Pierre-Emile Hojoburg and Oliver Skipp as he looked for a way to get the ball rolling.

It was only from this position that he made a superb pass across the United backline to send Heung Min Son into goal.

But Aaron Wan-Bissaka was able to run again to block and Son was marginally offside anyway.

The visitors might not have believed their luck against a team that showed little ambition or adventure.

Only Norwich and Leeds have scored fewer goals in the Premier League than Tottenham this season and Nuno’s only answer appears to be to put the opponents to sleep.

Fans sure don’t have the former Wolverhampton chief who is already testing his patience to the limit after just four months on the job.

The final straw for many came when Lucas Moura was replaced by Stephen Bergwijn in a cacophony of boos and angry chants: “You don’t know what you’re doing,” reverberating throughout the stadium.

What makes it even more painful for fans to swallow is the memory of the exciting and fantastic football their team played not so long ago under Mauricio Pochettino.

No wonder Kane was so eager to join Manchester City in the summer before Daniel Levy knocked him out of the market.

Because the way things are at the moment, he will do well to ensure that we finish the top half of the season.

By the end of the evening, he seemed to have almost given up. And to be honest it would be hard to blame him.
