Manchester United restored the humiliation of Liverpool in a perfect way with a 3-0 victory over Tottenham yesterday.
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring with a powerful shot before setting up Edinson Cavani to make it 2-0.
Marcus Rashford sealed the points on the counter-attack after coming off the bench and leaving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on duty for at least a few more days.
Ronaldo admitted after the match the pressure put on the players in the construction but was pleased with their reaction.
“It was difficult,” said the Portuguese. “We weren’t expecting the last result in the Premier League.” But I hope we’ve turned the page this time.
“Everyone knows their role in the team. It is not only the coach that many people refer to, but the players as well.
“But I think some things happen for a reason and we have to be happy about this wonderful afternoon.
“We won 3-0 in an away stadium against a difficult team and we are very happy with that.”
Solskjaer praised the older statesman Ronaldo and Cavani after saying he did not feel the match was his last chance,
The Norwegian said: “Both were really good.
“The Tuesday morning training session by Edinson Cavani is the best I’ve seen anyone since I’ve been here.
“He led the line as a good example to everyone, how to change moods, change performance.
“The two were told early on that they were going to play up front as two and they were like two peas in a sack. It worked today, two excellent goals.
“They are fit boys and the experience until today has shown. They both led the streak really well this week, all week from Tuesday morning practice to tonight.
“The performance was really good from the start, it was really good from Tuesday morning when we worked on something that we thought would work and it worked.
“Every player on the tee did their job, we kept two clean sheets and kept the ball off David. He didn’t have a save. It’s great to go to your fans to celebrate with them because they deserve it too.”
“When you win a football match, you are so happy, you work all week. We came on Tuesday morning, worked hard on the tactics and the mentality to prepare for this tough match.
