Real Madrid star Florentino Perez was on the verge of closing a £30m deal for floppy hair and new face David Silva in 2010 when the Spaniard was at Valencia.
But the move was dramatically canceled by Los Blancos amid fears of the player’s “drinking and partying”.
according to the athletePerez went so far as to tell the Madrid delegate to bring the 24-year-old’s travel bag after a match against Silva led by Valencia, telling them: “Take the bag to the dressing room, because David will be with us next year.”
Having had his photo taken with Perez’s nephews, Silva is more open to switching to the Bernabéu.
But after studying Real Madrid’s personality of the Spanish champion, they decided that he does not act with “the dignity required” to be a star at the Bernabéu.
The discovery baffled fans around the world, with Silva being the pro model during his ten-year spell at Man City – who managed to uproot him from Valencia with Madrid’s apparent blessing.
Silva has made over 400 appearances for the League and is widely recognized as one of the club’s greatest players of all time – having won four Premier League titles.
Shortly before his departure, former teammate Kevin De Bruyne paid tribute to Silva, saying: “Everyone respects him and everyone shows it.”
The Belgian was one of those who voted for Silva at City to be honored to become their new captain and was clearly delighted when he was officially appointed by Guardiola.
De Bruyne added: “David is very weak but when he speaks everyone listens.
“I think everyone has their own kind of leadership and I think someone is trying to control it in the game and maybe do it in a more silent way.”
Silva left City after a decade of service to return to La Liga with Real Sociedad
He turned down a lucrative move to Qatar as well as a chance to get a crack in Serie A with Lazio.
