Sunderland coach Lee Johnson may be laughing a little at himself after his Carabao Cup quarter-final draw with Arsenal.
The Black Cats won the QPR Championship in the previous round and after the match, Johnson wrapped up Arsenal supporters.
Asked who he would like to meet in the quarter-finals, Johnson said: “I hope Arsenal or Tottenham are away.
“And then we’ll wait for the really big guns when they’re two feet away.
Some Arsenal fans, visibly angry, began to ask “Who is this nobody?”
But they will know all about Johnson and his top-flight team Sunderland when they visit the UAE in December, a week before Christmas.
Johnson has a history of producing surprises in the Carabao Cup as well.
In 2017, Jose Mourinho took his Manchester United side to Ashton Gate, where Johnson triumphed Bristol City thanks to a last-minute winner from Corey Smith.
Robbins then proved a tough test for Manchester City in the semi-finals, but Pep Guardiola found a way to win.
Many Arsenal fans are looking forward to facing the Black Cats and are confident of beating the League One team.
One of the gunners wrote on Twitter: “You got your wish big man. Let’s smash them Arsenal please.
Another added: “Lee Johnson wanted an easy draw like Arsenal. Now he got it. The team talk is over before the match. Thank me.”
A third said: Johnson’s wish has been fulfilled, so let us show him the flames.
