While using your Windows PC, you may encounter error code 43, with the text “Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems”. The error is generated by your system’s Device Manager when a hardware component reports some type of unspecified problem.
An error code can mean one of two things. This either means that you have a driver issue, or it could be a sign of a hardware issue. Here, we’ll walk you through the troubleshooting process for code 43 for an NVIDIA or Intel GPU on Windows.
Update or reinstall your driver
If you are experiencing a persistent code 43 error, then reinstalling or updating the driver should be your first port of call. Most often, the error is caused by the driver losing contact with the hardware component. You can update your video card from Device Manager.
If you are not already in Device Manager, tap Win + R., Type devmgmt.msc, and press Enter to start Device Manager. research Display adapters Click the arrow next to it to expand Devices. You will see either NVIDIA and Intel GPU here. Right click on it and choose Driver Update.
You will see two options to update the driver. In most cases, it is best to look for the driver on the manufacturer’s website because Windows is not completely efficient at finding drivers automatically.
However, if you want to give auto update a shot, go for it as it won’t take more than 10 seconds. If it finds the driver, it will automatically install the driver. If you choose to go the manual path, choose the driver installation files and complete the installation, or you can use a free driver update tool.
Alternatively, you can also simply uninstall the driver software for this device. Upon restart, Windows will automatically reinstall the driver for you. To uninstall the driver, right-click on the device and simply click on uninstall device instead of Driver Update.
Use the built-in Windows troubleshooter
Windows comes with several built-in troubleshooting tools that can help you solve a range of problems, including hardware problems. You can access a file Hardware and devices The troubleshooter from the Settings app on Windows 10. However, Microsoft has deprecated the troubleshooter (sort of) from Windows 10 build 1809 and later.
You can still access the troubleshooter. Instead of running the troubleshooter from the Settings app, you will need to run a command in the Command Prompt. Journalism Win + R., Type poultice, and press Enters To run a command prompt. Run the following command:
msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic
Let the troubleshooter try to identify the problem. If you determine the cause of error code 43 is your NVIDIA or Intel GPU, it will first try to fix it automatically. If not, you will at least find out what is causing the problem.
However, if the troubleshooter does not identify the problem at all, try the next fix.
Check PCI-E 6 Pin
Not having enough power supply can also result in error code 43. Sometimes, the pin can break, leaving the GPU without enough power. Pushing the pin firmly into the socket can solve this problem.
You will at least need to be able to recognize what the GPU looks like. But once you find it, all you have to do is find the 6-pin cable connector and push it firmly in. If you can’t identify the 6-pin connector, simply push all the cables tightly into the socket.
Perform a system restore
If the error started appearing recently, you can try to restore your system to its previous state when everything was working fine. Anything you changed after the date the restore point was created will be undone, including any changes with the driver.
Of course, this requires that you have created a restore point in the first place. To check if you have a restore point that you can use, search for it recovery In the start menu and select Open System Restore from Recovery Window.
This will play a file system recovery Window. If you don’t have any restore points, you will see a message that says “No restore points were created on your system drive”.
If you have restore points, you will see a recommended restore point and an option to choose another restore point. Select the restore point that was made most recently.
Once you follow the prompts and finish the restore process, allow your computer to restart and see if it solves the problem.
Update your BIOS
A computer’s BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is a firmware that is responsible for initializing hardware when the computer starts up. It comes pre-installed and acts as a gateway to access your system. Unlike in the old times, you don’t need to replace your hardware components after BIOS update because they are now stored in flash memory.
The good thing is that updating your BIOS can also fix the Code 43 error in some cases. It’s best to try the previous fixes first, as updating the BIOS can be a bit technical. However, we have a comprehensive BIOS update guide that will walk you through the entire process.
You can also try updating the GPU Bios (also called VGA BIOS). But again, do this only after you have exhausted all other options. If you are not confident about flashing the BIOS, it is best to seek help from an expert as the error can mess up your GPU.
Error Code 43, Solved
We hope that one of these tips will help you deal with error code 43 for your NVIDIA or Intel GPU. If it doesn’t, then maybe it’s time to replace your GPU. As unfortunate as this sounds, it can be exciting if your GPU is old and can’t run as many new titles that your friends were bragging about. In addition, replacing the GPU is also not difficult.
