5 Reasons to Upgrade to Nvidia RTX 3050

The GeForce RTX 3050 was released by Nvidia in January 2022, and features 8 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. This rivals the RTX 3060 Ti by offering the same amount of memory with a boosted clock speed and lower power requirements, albeit with a much slower memory bus and lower overall bandwidth (there’s always an issue!).

At $249, the RTX 3050 sets the stage for an affordable graphics card capable of delivering 1080p ray tracing at 60 frames per second.

However, while GPU prices are 50-100% higher than the recommended retail price, a budget graphics card like the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 is a great breath of fresh air, especially since it offers a significant performance boost.

Users looking to invest in an RTX 3050 will be happy to know that the power from the GPU rests comfortably at 130W. Yes, it’s more than the AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT and other similar GPUs, but the performance boost is worth it.

For those looking to upgrade their graphics card, one of the main reasons to do so is to invest in ray tracing. Making light and shadows more realistic, ray tracing is one of the most sought after techniques in computer games.

Advanced display technologies such as ray tracing are particularly attractive because the realism of images in games produced by this technology is nearly unbeatable. However, the main drawback is that only a limited number of games support ray tracing, so if you’re investing in an RTX 3050 because of this, you might be disappointed.


3. DLSS

With more powerful GPUs out there, it’s hard to say whether the RTX 3050 is worth investing in just ray tracing. In fact, DLSS is the honorable mention among Nvidia’s 30-series GPUs, boosting performance in games and achieving 1080p at 60 fps for longer without sacrificing visuals.

You can expect to see a range of 60-62°, even at 1440p. Although the GPU’s fan speed isn’t anywhere close to that of the GTX 1660 Super, you can expect more noise than other budget graphics cards.

Although marketed as a 1080p graphics card, the RTX 3050 can run happily on many 1440p screens. Thus, those with an AMD RX 6500 XT will benefit from switching to the RTX 3050 if 1440p gaming is something you want to test the waters for (or even just good 1080p gaming, like the performance deficit of the RX 6500 XT).

Boosting its performance, Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3050 is able to run almost any game in your library. Without sacrificing visuals, enjoying high settings is fairly easy for this GPU, especially if you can get it at an affordable price.

Why is it worth upgrading to the Nvidia RTX 3050

If the GPU market was previous years’ market, you might think the RTX 3050 isn’t much better than the similarly priced GTX 1660 Super. However, it is not possible to think that way anymore, at least for some time.

Looking at Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3050 as it stands now, it’s definitely worth considering — more streaming processors, increased CUDA cores, ray tracing and DLSS, and gaming enabled at 1440p, all while keeping temperatures low.

However, if you have the budget and your eye on the RTX 40 series, it probably makes more sense to stay away from this generation of GPU.
