Alexander Soros, the apparent heir to the political and philanthropic mission of left-wing billionaire George Soros, has traded selfies with beauty and brotherhoods for handshakes and hugs with world leaders.
The big Democratic donor’s 36-year-old son attended the Munich Security Conference in Germany, where he joined heads of state preoccupied with the imminent threat of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

But Patrick Gaspard, the former head of the Open Society Foundations, insisted that the younger Soros was committed to his father’s mission.
“I think Alex is really invested in domestic politics in America and trying to figure out how to get past violent polarization, how to get past disinformation and he is someone who also cares deeply about protecting the rights of the most marginalized Americans,” Gaspard said.
Soros is vice chair of the board of directors for the giant nonprofit Open Society, which spent more than $1 billion in 2020 on left-wing causes including justice reform and economic equality.
Soros reportedly made it clear in a September call to the foundation’s staff that his father, 91, remains in charge.
“I work for him, he’s my boss,” The New York Times Quoting him as saying.
A spokesperson for the foundation did not respond to a request for comment on Soros’s future role in the organization.

Soros grew up in Westchester County, the eldest of Soros’ children and his second wife, Susan. He talked about his famous father who was largely absent and not very good at “deliverying love”. He has a younger brother and three older half-siblings.
He graduated from New York University in 2009 and received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley where his thesis was titled “Jewish Dionysus: Heine, Nietzsche and the Politics of Literature”.

An acquaintance described Soros as a “model obsessed” and wanted people to “think he’s desirable.”
