Labor MP John Terry has criticized Chris Bryant for his social media post praising Roman Abramovich.
Russian billionaire Abramovich has put Chelsea up for sale as a result of his country’s invasion of neighboring Ukraine.
And Terry was quick to express his thanks to Abramovich after 19 trophy-laden years as owner of the club.
And the 41-year-old posted on social media: “Thank you Roman. Best owner in the world.”
Although Mr Bryant condemned Terry for “celebrating” Abramovich’s tenure, government sanctions were threatening his fortune leaving him looking to empty the club.
Innocent Ukrainian civilians lose their lives due to Russian aggression.
“I think @JohnTerry26 should get this off ASAP,” Bryant wrote on Twitter. “The people of Ukraine are being bombed, bombed and killed while celebrating Abramovich.”
In a separate tweet, Mr. Bryant wrote: “This is appalling,” in response to Terry’s letter thanking Abramovich.
Mr Bryant continued his criticism of the former Chelsea captain in Parliament.
Mr. Bryant said, “I don’t know if you’ve seen this or not. [John Terry] He posted a photo with Abramovich, one of Putin’s friends.
What will the Ukrainian people think of the former England captain?
More than 2,000 civilians have died in Ukraine as a result of Putin’s illegal invasion, and it’s now in its eighth day.
Abramovich has pledged to award any profits from a potential £3 billion deal to victims of the Ukraine war – but has refused to condemn the actions of the autocrat Vladimir Putin.
Abramovich also revealed that he will cancel Chelsea’s £1.5 billion debt.
SunSport exclusively revealed last night that British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe is one of three parties interested in becoming the club’s new owners.
