Introducing Apple Studio and Apple Studio Display

Mac Studio and Studio Display

Apple introduced a whole new class of Macs with Mac Studio, best partnered with the new Studio Display (sold separately).

Announced at Apple’s “Peek Performance” event in March 2022, Mac Studio delivers power, energy efficiency and a suite of ports in one neat little package. The new desktop isn’t quite the Mac Pro but it offers more than the Mac mini, and puts it somewhere in the middle of the nonportable Mac package.

Alongside the new studio offering, Apple is marketing Mac Studio and – you might have guessed – studios, a broad term that seems to mean any workplace that uses computers. Let’s discuss the studio range in more detail.

Mac Studio Features and Price

Apple offers two options and starting pricing for Mac Studio depending on which chip you choose:

  • Mac Studio M1 Max starts at $1,999
  • Mac Studio M1 Ultra starts at $3999

Aside from performance and the inclusion of a front Thunderbolt 4 port instead of USB-C on the Ultra model, most entry-level specs match.

Mac Studio relies on a double-sided blower – a great fan setup – to quietly cool your machine and keep it running smoothly. Low noise, energy efficiency and “outrageous performance” seem to be the hallmarks of the new desktop device. The performance of some of Apple’s previous products has certainly caused quite a stir, so the description may be apt. If you’re a fan of a control room setup, you can connect up to four Studio Displays to your Mac, along with a single 4K TV.

Mac Studio also supports up to 8TB of SSD storage, but this spacious hard drive comes at an additional price of $2,200. When you add a lot of upgrades to Mac Studio, the cost quickly swells to astronomical numbers. Look, Apple, we can do the exaggeration, too.

Now let’s talk about the ports and the new M1 Ultra silicon chip.

Apple Mac Studio ports

Here is a list of all the ports included in Apple Mac Studio:

  • 4 Thunderbolt 4 ports
  • 1 10 Gigabit Ethernet port
  • 2 x USB-A منفذ
  • 1 HDMI port
  • 1x audio jack
  • 2 USB-C or Thunderbolt 4 ports for the M1 Ultra (front)
  • SDXC card slot (front)

As you can see, Mac Studio offers plenty of ports to help you weather any workplace storm.

With the release of Mac Studio also comes the latest addition to the Apple Silicon M1 lineup: the M1 Ultra. The new product uses a method called Ultra Fusion to connect two chips to deliver faster performance — and the product appears to deliver.

The M1 Ultra features a 20-core CPU and 64 GPUs while maintaining energy efficiency. Future benchmarks will indicate whether the new Apple chip lives up to the marketing hype.

Apple Studio monitor features and price

Apple’s studio offering starts at $1,599 and offers most of the features you’d expect from a professional monitor:

  • 27″ active area
  • 5K Retina Resolution
  • Array with three microphones
  • Six-speaker sound system with spatial sound
  • 3 USB-C
  • 96W Thunderbolt port for charging other devices
  • Height-adjustable stand and mounting adapter options

To accompany the new Studio range, Apple has also announced silver and black versions of the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad. And the new products look super slick.

Mac Studio and Studio Display release dates

Apple is already accepting pre-orders for Mac studio And the studio view Items will start shipping on March 18, 2022.

If you’re looking for a Mac that offers a bit more power than some of the other desktop machines on offer, the new Mac Studio might be worth a look. In all likelihood, you won’t even need to be in a studio to enjoy the product. Pair your new Mac with a studio monitor, and you’ve got a massive workstation that will absolutely piss your competition off.

During the event, Apple also hinted at the future announcement of a new Mac Pro, which will undoubtedly come with more hyperbolic descriptions surrounding the look, performance and features.
