Game consoles like the PS5 ship with a controller by default. In fact, console games versus PC games can be roughly defined on the grounds that most PC gamers use a keyboard and mouse, while consoles primarily use a controller.

However, if you prefer to sit on your couch and enjoy your favorite games, or find it easier to type with your friends, there is a way you can use your keyboard and mouse with your PS5.

Why can you use keyboard and mouse on PS5?

While the thought of using a PS5 compatible keyboard and mouse may seem out of the ordinary, it can be a useful addition for PS5 owners.

If you’ve ever tried to write a letter to a friend using the PS5 DualSense Controller, you’ll know how hard it can be. It is much easier to type a reply or enter a search query using the keyboard.

Likewise, there are several types of games that take advantage of the precision that a keyboard and mouse can provide for your PS5. First-person shooters like Call of Duty: Warzone and Fortnite welcome the subtle movements these peripherals can add, as well as RPGs like Final Fantasy XIV.

However, it’s worth noting that if the game you’re playing supports these devices, the PS5 will detect if you’re using a controller or keyboard/mouse and match you with related players. If you connect a keyboard and/or mouse, you will be paired with PC players in multiplayer matches instead of PS5 players.

Do all PS5 games support keyboard and mouse?

Not all PS5 games support keyboard and mouse. In fact, it’s up to the game developers whether they include compatibility or support for keyboard and mouse, which results in very few options.

The collection of games that officially support keyboard and mouse on PS5 are mostly backward compatible PS4 games on PS5 consoles.

Are all keyboards and mice compatible with PS5?

Almost all wired, wireless, and bluetooth keyboards and mice are compatible with the PS5. The only problem you might encounter is if your keyboard and mouse both share a single wireless transmitter; There may be problems detecting both terminals.

However, if you have individual devices that have their own wireless transmitter, there should be no issues.

How to Connect a Keyboard and Mouse to PS5

PS5 has four USB ports; Two in the front (USB-C and USB-A), and two in the back (USB-A Superspeed). And since the console also includes Bluetooth technology, you can connect a variety of wired, wireless, or Bluetooth keyboards and mice to your PS5 console.

To connect a wired keyboard or mouse to your PS5 via USB, simply plug the cable into a free USB port on your console. A popup will appear in the upper-right corner of your screen showing the keyboard and/or mouse icon, depending on what you have connected.

However, if you don’t have any free USB ports or you want a cleaner look, you can connect a mouse or keyboard via bluetooth. Here’s how.

  • From the PS5 home screen, go to Settings Depicted by an icon in the form of a gear.
  • Choose Accessories from Settings List.
  • under public tab, select bluetooth accessories.
  • Start pairing mode on your keyboard and mouse, then select it from the list of available accessories.

If you have a wireless keyboard or mouse and prefer not to use Bluetooth, you can plug in the included USB dongle and connect your peripherals to your PS5 the same way you would a wired keyboard or mouse.

Use keyboard and mouse with PS5

Having the option to connect a keyboard or mouse to your PS5 is definitely an advantage.

While console owners often use the DualSense controller included with their PS5 to play games, spending the evening with Netflix or scrolling through your favorite YouTube videos can be even more fun when you have the freedom to type on a physical keyboard.
