How to select all of the same color in Photoshop

Photoshop is full of tools that let you select all the same color. While some are obvious choices to get the job done, others are still good (or even better) to choose all the same color, but were originally designed for other purposes.

In this tutorial, we’ll show you several ways to select the same color in Photoshop.

Why choose the same color in Photoshop?

This is an important question to ask yourself before using Photoshop to choose the same color. After all, how you decide to select the color itself will determine how your image will look at the end of the edit.

Additionally, your choice of color selection tools may require more work in Photoshop depending on its intended purpose. For example, if you are selecting the same color in Photoshop to simply change it to another color, you can choose specific tools for the task.

On the other hand, if you are only selecting the same color in Photoshop to remove it entirely from your image, there are faster and more effective tools to do so.

We’re using the image above for all of our examples to show you how to use Photoshop to select colors. We will focus mainly on one color, cyan.

To make things more complicated, there is also blue in the mix or at least some sort of gradient or silhouette effect that results in blue in some places. But the methods we will take will be exactly the same for selecting a color in Photoshop.

Let’s get started!

Keep in mind that this is a disruptive editing workflow. So, depending on how you intend to use the image, you may want to duplicate the layer first by pressing control + y to save the original layer.
