While computer parts like RAM and CPU are easy to identify in your system summary, things aren’t always straightforward when you need to check your motherboard model.
Depending on your motherboard and operating system, there are a few more steps involved. But fortunately, it is still easy for beginners to learn. Here’s how to quickly and easily answer the question: “What motherboard do I have?”
If you have a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC, there are some built-in tools that you can use to find out your motherboard model and other information.
These are a little different from other quick ways to check your computer’s hardware specifications because motherboard information is not included in a summary about your computer.
Here are two of the most convenient ways…
1. How to check the motherboard with Command Prompt
You can easily check your motherboard model and serial number using Windows Command Prompt. This method works for both Windows 10 and Windows 11.
First, write poultice In the start menu search bar and select File Command Prompt Application.
Another way to open Command Prompt is to use the Run shortcut, Windows + R, Writes poultice In the pop-up window, tap Enters.
You will not need to run Command Prompt as administrator. Once the command window opens, you can prompt the Windows Management Interface Command (WMIC) to check the manufacturer, model, name, and other features of your motherboard.
To do this, simply enter the following directly into the command prompt:
wmic baseboard get product,manufacturer,version,serialnumber
Remember not to include any spaces between modifiers such as product and manufacturer — just separate them with a comma.
2. Check your motherboard model using Windows System Information
Windows System Information can also provide you with motherboard details. However, this method is a hit and miss. It appears to be compatible with some motherboards in our tests but fails to recognize other motherboards.
If you have a compatible motherboard, this is the easiest way to check your motherboard model and brand on Windows.
First, open Being Use Windows + R.. When the Run window opens, type msinfo32 and press Enters.
This will open the Windows System Information overview.

If you want to use a program to check your motherboard information, there are a few free options you can choose from.
1. How to find out which motherboard you have with CPU-Z
If Command Prompt can’t retrieve your motherboard’s information or you want to get a more comprehensive overview of its specifications, you can use CPU-Z. This free software will give you a comprehensive set of computer hardware components.
You can download the program at CPU-Z موقع. Once you install and start the program, it will immediately analyze your components to identify them.
To learn more about your motherboard, just select a file main board tab.
Here you will see information such as your motherboard manufacturer, model, chipset, and more.
2. Check your motherboard with a Bellarc consultant
If you want to know your motherboard’s serial number, Belarc Advisor is another useful program.
The program is free to download from Bellarc Consultant Website.
One of the advantages of Belarc is that it does not send your data to any web servers. Instead, once the analysis is complete, it will display the summary in a local file through your browser. To check what kind of motherboard you have with Belarc Advisor, start the program.
Once you allow it to run, it will go through a series of checks. You can choose to skip specific steps such as network scan.
Once the steps are completed, Belarc will open the results in a browser tab. The results include information about the operating system, hardware components, connected devices, and login sessions. However, to view the motherboard summary, look for the title on the right that says this main circuit board.
This is where you’ll find your motherboard’s information, such as the model name, serial number, and bus clock speed.
How to actually check the type of motherboard
If you can’t currently use the software to check your motherboard type, there is always an option to physically check it. You should select this option if your computer does not turn on or if your motherboard is not currently installed. You can also use this to check the model twice before using a board for old motherboard recycling projects. It’s not the preferred method if you have a laptop as the components can be placed in front of the motherboard itself.
The exact location of the model name on the motherboard will vary depending on the layout and brand. Even our check on two Asus motherboards found that the model number was located in slightly different locations for each.
The motherboard model is usually found where there is enough space to print large text. This can be below your RAM slots, between the CPU and GPU (as with the Asus Prime B350-Plus), or below the GPU (as with the Asus Prime B350M-A).

You can distinguish the model name from the other text because it is usually the largest text on the motherboard.
Another place you can find your motherboard model information is in the box it came in. Of course, that’s only if you still have it. The label on the outside of the box will include the model and serial number.
In addition, the label on the back of the motherboard often provides the serial number. However, this is the hardest part to get to if the motherboard is already installed.
Find out what motherboard you have on Linux
If you are using Linux, the process of figuring out which motherboard you have will be just as easy.
First, open Terminal in Linux with Ctrl + Alt + T.. After that, type the following command:
sudo dmidecode -t 2
This will display a summary of your motherboard, including its make, model, and serial number. If you are using a virtual machine, it will specify this product name.
However, if you are running Ubuntu on your physical computer, you will see your motherboard model and serial number information.
