Latest supplement in night suite‘s The wardrobe is a hidden – but touching – tribute to one of the character’s creators, Marv Wolfman. The current creative team on night suite Revises and expands Dick Grayson’s look and arsenal of tools. In the latest issue, the hero makes his debut in a biker jacket that doubles as a nod to Marv Wolfman and his Nightwing-style jacket.
Dick Grayson first appeared as Robin, Batman’s child partner, in 1940, but was reinvented as a stand-alone Nightwing in 1984. Teen Titans Tales #44 By Marv Wolfman And The Late George Perez. Nightwing has established himself as a major hero in his own right, far from the influence of Batman, in Gotham and at his original base: Bloodhaven. Dick Grayson has walked many iconic looks over the decades—from shorts to long collars—but few are more beloved than the original Nightwing costume, fondly known to fans as “Discowing,” from the pages of Wolfman and Pérez New Teen Titans. Recently, Dick’s “trimmed” ’90s-era costume is back, along with a series of costume and gadget upgrades.
in night suite #93 by Tom Taylor, Bruno Redondo, Adriano Lucas, and Wes Abbott, Nightwing sets off a squad of corrupt cops, who have ordered the hero to be arrested by the evil Blockbuster. While Dick is fleeing the scene of his “crime” (cleaning the graffiti off an Alfred statue), he runs behind a bush and heads out with a motorbike – and a stylish new Nightwing-themed jacket. This same design has been seen before in the “real world”; Pictures of Marv Wolfman wearing a Nightwing biker jacket circled online, including a tweet excerpted from Current Current night suite Artist Bruno Redondo. The original tweet contained a picture of George Perez and Marv Wolfman smiling together. Redondo tweeted the photo with the caption, “I love these two so much.”
Knowing that Redondo has seen this photo of both Pérez and Wolfman, it’s easy to make a leap that Nightwing’s new biker costume accessory is a tribute to Marv Wolfman and his special striped jacket. This tribute to the character creators comes as no surprise to fans who follow the stream night suite ran, which featured many tributes to Wolfman and Pérez, including cameos in night suite #92. Nightwing is a major force in the DC universe in large part due to Wolfman and Pérez’s work with the character, so these many nods to the two in the current book are more than welcome and always a pleasure to discover. There are definitely more Easter eggs beyond text night suiteEspecially after the recent death of the legendary artist, George Perez.
Present night suite Run is successful in part because of the way the creative team honors the character’s past while looking to Dick Grayson’s future. Part of that homage came from reimagined couture, including fun details—like Dick’s new biker jacket in Marv Wolfman style.
