The actress, who played Anastasia Steele in the film The Seven Year Old and based on the novel by E.L. James, refuted the rumors, saying, “There was never a time we didn’t get along.
“I know it’s weird, but he’s like a brother to me. I love him so much. And we were really there for each other. We had to trust each other and protect each other.”
Johnson also said the last movie wasn’t “what I signed up for.”
She explained, “I’m a sexual person, and when I care about something, I want to know a lot about it.
“That’s why I made those big nude movies. I scored to do a very different version of the movie we finished making.”
While she said she had a wonderful relationship with Dornan, Johnson said the production of the film was not without friction.
She added, “I was young. I was 23. So it was scary.
“It just got crazy. There were a lot of different controversies. I couldn’t really talk about this at all, because you want to promote a movie the right way, and I’m proud of what we made in the end and everything turns out the way it’s supposed to, but it was difficult.”
Speaking of the book’s co-creator, E.L. James, whom Johnson refers to as Erika, she said, “We’ll do the footage of the movie Erika wanted to make, and then you’ll do the snippets of the movie we wanted to make.
“The night before, I was rewriting scenes with old dialogue so I could add a line here and there. It was like a mess the whole time.”
