Browns Sign Former Packers Edge Rusher Chris Odom

The Doug Pound members were eager for the Cleveland Browns to strengthen their defensive front. On Friday, the team took a huge step in that direction.

Cleveland signed reckless former NFL player Chris Odom for a deal on August 5. The defensive party shared the news via it. Instagram page.

Odom spent stints with the Green Bay Packers in 2017 and Washington leaders In 2019. He appeared in 11 regular season games together, collecting 16 tackles, including two tackles for a loss, two bags, two hits in the middle, and a forced trip, per Pro Football reference. Odom has also been a member of the Atlanta Falcons on two occasions, but has never risen above the pre-season roster and/or coaching squad.

The Houston Gamblers of the USFL drafted Odom with the fourth pick in the second round of the league draft in February. Odom went on to win the USFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2022, performing 29 tackles and 12.5 sacks in 10 games, each Fox Sports.

After his impressive performance in the USFL, he hosted the Kansas City Chiefs Odom for practice in July before finally signing with Cleveland on Friday.

Odom adds depth to Brown’s already amazing passing dash

Cleveland already has an amazing dash on the edge, although Odom will provide depth to a unit that loses a bit of steam outside of the starting lineup.

NFL All-Pro Myles Garrett finished third in the league in sacks last season with 16. Brown also managed to bring back defensive end Jadeveon Clowney on a one-year deal after scoring nine sacks for the team last season.

Beyond these two, the beginner depth chart reads Alex WrightAnd the Stephen Weatherly and Chase Winovich, who the Browns had recently acquired via trade with the New England Patriots. Odom is now getting into the same mix and will be competing for pickups from the bench, as well as his most prominent role on the NFL team to date.

Brown still needs help on the inside of the defensive line

While adding depth to a passing dash is not only great, it’s crucial in the modern NFL, the Browns still have to address their biggest defensive weakness – the inside of the defensive line.

owner jackson no Owner McDowell, the most prominent players in the Cleveland defensive tackle last season, are no longer with the team. Even if they were, the news wouldn’t inspire as much confidence, as Brown struggled hard through the middle for most of last year.

Brown’s defensive line coach Chris Kevin spoke specifically about the defensive tackle point during an interview in mid-June.

However, any discussion about including Suh in the fold has fallen into a faint whisper, as the five-time Pro Bowler has ramped up discussions with other franchises around the league, including the Minnesota Vikings.
