Denny Hamlin spoke about Tye Gibbs’ performance in 2022.
Denny Hamlin, co-owner of 23XI Racing, weighed in on an important topic. He has given vibes about Ty Gibbs, who started the Seven Cup series in place of the injured Kurt Bosch.
Hamlin made the remarks during a news conference at Kansas Speedway on September 10. He reminded members of the media in attendance that Gibbs is still only 19 years old and that he has a lot to learn about the Trophy series. Although Hamlin also made positive comments about how Gibbs performed in No. 45 and No. 23.
He did what we asked him to do,” Hamlin said of Gibbs. “It’s still a learning process. He is still nineteen years old. He’s still learning as he goes. I think he, for sure, realizes that the fence between the Xfinity garage and the Cup Series is long and that these guys are really good.
“It’s tough,” Hamlin added, “but he’s learning every week and he’s not shredding the equipment and putting us in the top 20. So, that’s fine.”
Gibbs avoided accidents at Darlington Racecourse

GTTy Gibbs gave a solid performance at the Darlington Raceway.
The Lady in Black was the site of the first playoff race, and saw several crashes involving the championship hopefuls. Chase Elliott crashed and Chase Briscoe collected while Ross Chastain and Kyle Larson each fell several laps due to various unexpected issues. Kevin Harvick’s day ended due to a fire.
Meanwhile, Gibbs gave a quiet performance. He’s not in qualifying, but he’s a driver with little experience on the South Carolina track. However, his first time at Darlington Raceway in a Cup Series car did not show any problems.
Gibbs started 21st in the #23 Toyota Camry TRD, working his way into the top ten during the first stage. Then he avoids mistakes and issues on the right track alike before he finishes the fifteenth day overall. This was his fifth 20th place finish in seven starts, a race that also includes the top 10 at the Michigan International Speedway.
Gibbs is likely to make more of his starts in 2022

The situation surrounding Gibbs, Kurt Busch and 23XI Racing is still in flux. There is no set date for Busch to return from a crash during qualifying at Pocono Raceway, and Hamlin has previously said the 2004 Cup Series champion has “stabilised” in his recovery. He still needs the doctors to clear it up to get back to the trophy series.
If Busch doesn’t return in the coming weeks, Gibbs will go on to make more of a break in 23rd. His Cup Series debuts will likely be at Bristol Motor Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway, Talladega Superspeedway, Charlotte Roval among others. .
Gibbs hasn’t struggled much during his other debut races despite his encounters with some of the best motorsport drivers. He put in strong showings for 23XI Racing, Hamlin and the crews who accompanied him to every race on the schedule. Now there will be questions about whether he will continue that streak at Kansas Speedway and all of the other tracks remaining on the 2022 schedule.
