2022 season updates

September 10 (20 Alabama, Texas 19)

After a tough first inning, Alabama chose to put the ball in Bryce Young’s hand, meaning the offense spent most of the third and fourth quarters running away from the running game. However, Gibbs—who could end up being a huge year in multiple areas—found a way to make plays underneath. He showed chemistry with Young in passing situations, routinely beating the linebacker and safety on the corner tracks in the middle of the field. When he had these opportunities as a receiver, Gibbs showed great speed and footwork in short areas.

He only had 22 yards in nine rounds in the game, but had nine passes for 74 yards and landed. While it’s unclear how much Alabama trusts him or Jase McClellan (who had an 81-yard TD) in short-range situations at the moment, a lot of that work has gone to Young. However, this crime should highlight all that Gibbs can do as a multitool weapon. – Nick Baumgardner

What you need to know

Gibbs, one of the top 100 recruits in the 2020 class, surprised many when he remained committed to Georgia Tech across several SEC programs such as Alabama, Florida and LSU. As part of the backfield committee, he quickly established himself as one of the Yellow Jackets’ top offensive players, leading the team in rushing yards (746) and yards per reception (13.3) in 2021. After his sophomore year, Gibbs entered the transfer gate and signed with Alabama out Last season. – Dean Bruegler

Scouts pre-season report

Although small by NFL standards, Gibbs is a dynamic ball bearer and should thrive with Tuscaloosa’s passing and blocking attack. With his athletic talents and soft hands, Georgia Tech Transfer is a runaway as a passing pro – especially on corner roads, where he can cross the face of defenders and create a runway for himself. – Bruggler
