The result of the Brazil-Serbia match: Richarlison scored the goal of the tournament’s opponent in winning the World Cup

Richarlison scored early in the tournament as Brazil ended stubborn Serbia’s resistance to win their opening match of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Serbia defended strongly in the first half, but fell behind when Richarlison hit a rebound after Vinicius Junior’s shot was saved in the face of the goal.

But the best is yet to come from the Tottenham Hotspur striker.

Once again, it was Vinicius Junior who was the creator, with the Real Madrid man volleying a cross into the box with the outside of his boot.

Richarlison appeared to mishandle the ball at first but responded brilliantly, immediately spinning and acrobaticly guiding the ball past Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.

Player of the match: Richarlison

There was a lot of pressure on the Tottenham striker coming into this tournament.

But the 25-year-old remained patient and took his chances when they came. One was a rough finish, the other a sexy one.

He became the first Brazilian player to score twice on his World Cup debut after Neymar in 2014.

A key statistic

Richarlison has now scored as many World Cup goals as Ronaldinho (2).

what does that mean?

This means that Brazil’s next match, against Switzerland, is a match at the top of the table and likely to decide who wins Group G.

What’s Next?

Brazil and Switzerland will meet on Monday 28 November. Before that Serbia will play Cameroon and the European side will need to get something from that match if they are to have any chance of advancing to the knockout stage.
