Exit Colt McCoy for the Cardinals, and Trace McSorley to start for the Pirates

Colt McCoy has been ruled out of the Cardinals’ backup due to a concussion he suffered in Sunday’s loss to the Broncos. Without McCoy, Trace McSorley would start against the Pirates on Christmas Day. Here’s what you need to know:

  • McCoy started in place of superstar Kyler Murray who suffered a knee injury in a Week 13 loss to the Patriots.
  • McCoy left last Sunday’s game in the third quarter and was replaced by McSorley.
  • McSorely will make his first career start on Sunday.

background story

McSorley, the Ravens’ sixth round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, threw for 95 yards and two interceptions in Sunday’s loss. This is his fourth appearance in the match this season and the seventh in his career.

The former Penn State star threw for 256 yards, a touchdown, and three interceptions over his three professional seasons.

David Plouffe, who appeared on HBO’s Hard Knocks during boot camp, will serve as McSorley’s backup on Sunday.
