Ohio State added another major piece to its secondary from the transfer gate. Former Ole Miss cornerback Davison Igbenson committed offense against the Buckeyes on Tuesday. Here’s what you need to know:
- Igbinosun entered the transfer portal on 18 January after one year with the Rebels. He was selected as a freshman by College Football News after recording five pass breakups and 37 tackles while making 10 starts.
- He visited Ohio State on Saturday and selected the Buckeyes over Michigan, UCLA and Tennessee.
- Igbinosun is ranked #175 nationally out of Union (NJ) high school in the Class of 2022.

What does this mean for Ohio?
Ohio State needed help in the secondary and weeks ago acquired Syracuse transfer safety Ja’Had Carter. Now the Buckeyes have added to the cornerback position, which is a huge need. Not only was Igbinosun one of the best transfers available, Ohio State also retained an influential player from Michigan. Although Ohio State needed some help in the corner, so did their rival Wolverines, who had an open spot despite running backs Will Johnson and Mike Senristel.
Igbinosun would be a huge addition to the Buckeyes, who lost JK Johnson as a transfer to LSU. It might even be an upgrade. The 6-foot-2 cornerback is a good size and should immediately compete to play Denzel Burke, Jordan Hancock and Jayer Brown. It was clear after the loss to Georgia that Ohio State needed more playmakers in the secondary. Igbinosun is exactly that.
Ohio State employees deserve credit for addressing two sites of need—safety and corner—through the gate.
