After a 10-point deficit at halftime, the Kansas City Chiefs cruised to a near improbable 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII on Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. It’s the Chiefs’ third Super Bowl title. date. Here’s what you need to know:
- Teams that trailed by 10 or more points at halftime are now 2-26 in the Super Bowl. The Patriots are the only other team to achieve this feat when they beat the Falcons in Super Bowl LI.
- Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes apparently re-injured his right ankle late in the second quarter, but he didn’t miss an opportunity. He directed the Kansas City offense to score on all four second half possessions – three touchdowns (Toney Cadarius and Sky Moore receiving TDs and Isiah Pacheco rushing a TD) and Harrison Butler’s 27-yard game-winning field goal with eight seconds left in the game.
- Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts looked like he was on his way to being the MVP of the Super Bowl ahead of the Chiefs’ comeback. Hurts went 27 of 38 passes for 301 yards with one TD pass and added 70 rushing yards on 15 carries and three TDs, including a 5-yard run and two point conversion to tie it 35-35 with 5:15 left in the game.
