The problem: Mayor Adams’ plan to make the Underground trains safer by increasing social service and a police presence. There is no doubt that the issue of homelessness is an issue that needs to be resolved (“Subway Homeless Assistance Teams to a Slow Start,” February 23). Simply ignoring the problem, as Mayor Adams’ predecessor did, is not a solution. Locking up people doesn’t solve the problem either. These people were once productive members of society and, for whatever reason, descended into a life of drug addiction and mental illness. Adams’s…

Hochul details cybersecurity plans in New York as the US prepares for a possible Russian hack

Governor Cathy Hochhol announced Tuesday that the state is setting up a team to combat cyber security threats and bolster digital defenses in New York amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and vowed to “thwart” potential cyber attackers. During a press conference with several Empire State mayors, Hochhol brought up the state’s Joint Security Operations Center, explaining that the team would need to hire 70 “highly trained personnel to work at a facility with 117 desktop computers.” “This will be the nerve center of our electronic operations. We will be bringing…

Of that number, 60 percent said crime was a “very serious” problem while 31 percent said it was a “fairly serious” problem. Concerns about crime include all regions and ethnic groups. Fernando Cabrera obtained a position at City Hall as Senior Religious Counsellor

Former Bronx Council member Fernando Cabrera has landed a role at City Hall after all — the controversial pastor will serve as senior religious advisor in the newly created Office of Faith-Based and Community Partnership. Mayor Eric Adams confirmed the appointment in a statement released Monday night shortly after Cabrera issued a lengthy Facebook bug over his past anti-gay comments. “Fernando Cabrera acknowledged the pain caused by his previous comments and apologized for the words he used,” Adams said in the statement announcing his appointment. “I heard his apology and…

Eric Adams’ plan for the homeless is safer for us and better for them

Do Homeless Advocates really want what’s best for them? We ask as Mayor Adams demonstrated the political courage to do what his predecessor did not: make our subways safer and more welcoming for all. “No more smoking, no drug use, no more sleeping, no more barbecuing in the subway system. He no longer does what you want him to do,” Adams said as he began his subway safety program on Monday. Those days are over. Listen, listen! Of course, advocacy groups are preparing to take action, promising to file lawsuits…

New NYC subway safety plan takes effect after violent weekend

Mayor Eric Adams’ new subway safety plan goes into effect Monday after a series of violent transit accidents over the weekend. New York Police Department teams and outreach workers are set to begin checking trains and subway stations across the city as part of the mayor’s plan to crack down on rule-breaking and end homelessness. The teams will also seek to identify mentally ill and homeless people in an effort to prevent them from living on trains and at stations – and work to provide the treatment they need. “No…

The case: Mayor Adams makes the race case against the journalists who question him about the crime. While I applaud Mayor Adams for trying to change bail reform laws and for wanting to pull police officers out of office service, I think he was out of line in criticizing the media’s racial makeup and patting him on the back. (“Beat the Press for Adams,” Feb. 16). It’s still pretty early in his state – and quite frankly, what has he accomplished so far? Mayor Adams, if you’re reading this, get…

This is the woman Mayor Adams says is a symbol of the homelessness crisis

The Post found the woman Mayor Eric Adams used to illustrate the depth of the homelessness crisis in the city’s subway system Friday — and those who know her said she desperately needs help. The woman, who identified herself as Jennifer Mueller, 39, was wearing an assortment of ill-fitting clothes and mismatched shoes as she pushed a trolley with her belongings near the turnstiles at Bedford Avenue station in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood. Mueller, who spoke quickly and in parts of a sentence, did not answer most questions directly but said…

Eric Adams tackles rule-breaking on the NYC subway with new safety plan

Mayor Eric Adams announced a new plan Friday to clean up the city’s subway system by cracking down on violating rules and preventing people from living on trains and at stations. “No more smoking. No more drug use. No more sleep. No more barbecues in the subway system. No more just doing what you want,” he said. “No. Those days are over. Swipe your MetroCard. Get on the system. Get off at your destination. That’s what this administration says.” Adams said teams of outreach workers and NYPD cops will begin…

Christina Yuna Lee’s blood is on the hands of Democrats

A homeless career criminal with three open cases stalks a young woman, forces his way into her Chinatown apartment, and stabs her to death — and Democrats blame everything from Donald Trump to the end of child tax breaks. Everything but their anti-cop policies, which caused the inevitable breakdown of law and order that led to the horrific death of Christina Yuna Lee. Killing me is every woman’s worst nightmare. Her screams brought on the police, but by the time they managed to smash her hardened steel door down, she…
