Sheffield United will not go into administration – Chief Executive Stephen Bettis

Sheffield United chief executive Stephen Bettis insists the club is in no danger of entering administration. Reports on Friday said the club had taken measures to cut spending and avoid threatening management. Betis denied taking such measures, including cutting back on lawn fertilizer and turning off the undersoil heating at the training ground. The CEO admitted that United had failed to pay many suppliers on time. “We’re not going into administration… There’s not even a threat,” Bettis said. “Let’s be very frank, if you look at the Championship, everyone knows…

Echoes of 2005-06 as Sheffield United got their promotion bid back on track

calamity? What crisis? As a jubilant Paul Heckingbottom celebrated in front of Sheffield United fans at the final whistle, it was hard to believe that just a few days ago the red and white half of the Steel City was shrouded in gloom and gloom. The defeat at Luton Town, combined with Middlesbrough’s 14-win in their last 17 games by coming from behind to beat Swansea City, opened up the very real possibility of entering the international break sitting just outside the automatic promotion places in the Championship. First time…

Sheffield United say ‘give the ball to faith’ – but their squad is full of luxury

The common consensus is that the best summation of the championship season is the old saying, “A marathon, not a sprint.” In many ways, though, the second tier of English football is a marathon at a sprint pace. There is simply no stopping a competition that can be as unpredictable as it is unforgiving. That’s why the early pacers – and by that we mean the top two when the campaign hits the ten-game mark – don’t always go on the track. Not exactly what Sheffield United will want to…
